APART

APART
(for Gary Stevenson)

let’s play chess
or set each other
some mathematical problems

take a logical approach
whilst the world falls
to pieces
billions of pieces

some of the pieces
truth be told, however,
now having
accumulated a
most gigantic size

perhaps we might
consider them in
their own right planets

greater
by far, than
our own little
Earth that just broke apart

EYES ONLY

EYES ONLY

wealth is quasar
wealth is
      ball of frozen ammonia

titanic ringed would be
archetype of
liquid methane gas

wealth is the paradox out there
for your, my, our,
their
     eyes only

wealth is ever spiralling
golden fractal pattern

is, as Blake did put it
universe of mystery
in a
   grain of sand

TRILLIONS

TRILLIONS

give them
a pleasure
treasure island

beyond
their wildest dreams
self-
    contained
far away
from the rest of us

where they can live out
their deepest aspirations
most intense fantasies

except
   they do

not have any

witness their only joy
to be accumulation
primary accumulation

as they build skyscrapers
and mountains higher
than any
    in the Himalayas

stacking trillions
of sea shells on the sea shore
