FIRE

FIRE

hardly poetry
in motion

I slip and fall face-first
the ball dribbling away from me

the goal at my mercy
the very gods of association
football
    begging me
to score

before that over
the bar
past the post, every
shot off
target

something askew
with my sinews
what
   it just has to be

one day I shall write this
as if it were just
bad
   dream
not painful reality

drafting like a maniac
on my mobile phone

I may just
out of nowhere
    bring into being
a cannonball
of a poem

artifact smooth and deadly
with that force that
be the product of
mass and
acceleration

crack open any
defence readers
might prepare

(ultimate answer to
so many misfires)

LOVE FIGURE

LOVE FIGURE

I do not possess
the technology
to love you

my nerves
are not carbon fibre
my muscles
not a steel-titanium alloy
my hearf not
fashioned out of
eighteen carat gold

these for love
are default model,
basic requirements

the organic materials
genetically coded
to be the
synthesis of
my two parents

is no way the stuff
of which figure of love
needs to
be composed.

WEREN’T WE?

WEREN’T WE?

weren’t we
supposed to hold
up the mirror
to human nature

not let it fall
splinter, shatter

crash and burn, break
into a billion tiny
diamond-bright pieces

jagged shards, blood
soaked, blood
painted, bloody

never to be fixed
never
       to be returned
never reclaimed
never restored

all those bits of light
dancing in the Sun grotesquely

hold
up the mirror
to human nature

who the fuck, nowhere
near his right mind
came up
     with that idea

(go not pass go
        leave the planet
sail steadfast, venture into the cosmos
               cross
the galaxy

not, never
in a trillion lifetimes

nothing out there
     to mirror what
we
   might well be)

weren’t we?

LOCK

LOCK

love is that
gleaming apple
too high

up
the tree

it is
the death bed of the intellectual
fatal aporia
kills
their categories

it is the puzzle
with too many pieces
for the box
infinite choice

the blurb on
the sleeve

pity barely any fit together let alone

interlock

and you told yourself
it would be all too easy

are we not
so perfectly designed for this?

CONJUNCTION

CONJUNCTION

I am writing
              a poem

and the world is fucked.

I am writing a poem
but
the world

     is fucked

I am
writing a poem

however, although,
the world
                              is
                      fucked

am writing
notwithstanding, despite,
in outright opposition to

the
   world

being fucked.

I am writing a poem,

have written a poem,

just trying to establish
the precise conjunction.
